Postgraduate Diploma in E-Commerce and I.T. Skills for Overseas Students
Introduction

Course Content
The Diploma in E-Commerce and I.T. Skills runs for forty weeks from starting
date to graduation. Fourteen weeks are spent studying E-Commerce skills and
fourteen weeks general computer skills. The remaining twelve weeks are given
over to examination and project preparation. All preparation for examinations
and projects is carried out in the training room.
Course Breakdown
I.T. Skills
Seven modules are covered in this section with the main emphasis being on
the development of skills in the following areas: Basic Concepts of Information
Technology; Data storage, log on / off, installing software, saving to floppy
disk, using e-mail, search engines, my computer directories, backup of data,
system utilities.
Using the Computer and Managing Files: File and folder
management, creating sub folders, moving files, deleting files, printing files,
understanding your computer specification, help functions, search functions.
Word Processing: Open and save word documents, selecting
text, creating tables, formatting, alignment of text, bullets and numbering,
borders and shading, tables, cells and columns, merge fields, indenting, headers
and line width, printing from a word processor.
Spreadsheets: Creating, formatting and saving spreadsheets,
titles, cells and columns, formulas, calculus and sorting, handling worksheets,
charts and forecasts, functions in spreadsheet operation, printing spreadsheets.
Database: Creating databases and tables, queries, reports
and forms, entering and modifying records in a table, creating relationships
in databases, exporting and importing data, printing from a database.
Presentation: Slides, structuring and formatting slideshows,
insertion of text, colour and images, header and footer in slides, behaviour
of slide text, charts in slides.
Information and Communiction: Web browsing, search engines,
keywords, Url's, search refinements, composing messages for e-mail, BCC and
CC in e-mail, managing address books, attaching files.
E-Commerce
Topics include: HTML Tables, frames, links, design and usability, formatting,
imaging, watermarks, printing web pages, Tags, lists, navigation, image maps,Vbscript
with HTML, Active Server Pages (ASP) interaction with HTML. Web Page form
handling with HTML and Javascript, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Dynamic HTML,
Direct Animation, ActiveX Controls, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Fireworks, and
Flash, XML and PHP.
Course Project
A practical Course Project based on a real world brief involving E-Commerce
and I.T. Skills is submitted by course participants in week forty.
Methods of Training
Workshops, discussions, projects, case studies, hands-on computer training,
etc.
Lecturers
The Fitzwilliam Institute International maintains a panel of qualified and
motivated lecturers who work as a team monitoring each student's progress.
Who Should Apply
Anyone who wishes to develop their E-Commerce and I.T. skills. Selection
is based on educational background, etc.
Qualifications
Successful students are awarded the Institute of Commercial Management's
Diploma in E-Commerce and I.T. Skills at Distinction, Credit or Pass level.
The Diploma is awarded on the basis of project performance, examination results,
attitude, attendance and timekeeping.

Duration
The course is run over a period of 40 weeks from the starting date to graduation.
Half the training time is given over to E-Commerce training and half to general
computer skills.

Fees
€4,500 Students who are non-EU nationals must private medical insurance
which is arranged for them by Fitzwilliam Institute International
and comply with visa requirements.

Ltd. by bank draft. Fees should not be paid in any other way, or through any
other channel. Fee payments are due to Fitzwilliam Institute International
Ltd. on receipt by the prospective student of a letter of acceptance from
Fitwilliam Institute International Ltd.
Fees, less the administration fee of €150, are refunded if an applicant fails
to obtain a visa or the course is cancelled by Fitzwilliam Institute International
Ltd. Please note that fees are not refunded if a student fails to obtain a
visa extension while in Ireland.
Fitwilliam Institute International Ltd. reserves the right to dismiss students
who fail to attend courses to the required level or are disruptive in any
way.
Fitzwilliam Institute International Ltd. closes on Bank Holidays and for
a number of days at Christmas and New Year. Fitzwilliam Institute International
Ltd. reserves the right to postpone, cancel or alter courses without notice
or to change any of the details in this brochure.
